The Magic Of A Morning Ritual

Creating a morning ritual is an awesome way to kick start your day in a mindful and positive way. Incorporating a routine that honours your mind, body and soul, will leave you feeling refreshed, focussed and harmonised.

Here are a few of my favourite sunrise rituals!

1. When you first wake up, do some gentle stretches while lying in bed and think of three things that are lighting you up at the moment - what are you grateful for? Adopting a sense of gratitude as soon as you wake will set a positive tone for the day.

2. Tongue scraping. This ancient Ayurvedic pratice is said to remove toxins from the tongue, improve your body's detoxification processes, and is great for oral wellbeing.

3. Oil pulling. Take a tablespoon of coconut oil and swish it around your mouth for ten to twenty minutes to aid in detoxification and improve the health of your teeth and gums. Make sure you spit it out in a paper towel and put it in the rubbish bin so it doesn’t clog your drains!

4. Drink one or two glasses of filtered water with a squeeze of fresh organic lemon juice to get the digestive enzymes flowing.

5. Breakfast. Set yourself up for the day with organic wholefood goodness. Think about slow burning energy - oats, chia seeds, nuts, acai, smoothies and protein. Bananas, granola, coconut yoghurt, blueberries and almond milk… Nutrient dense food that will leave your body and your soul smiling.

6. Dry body brushing. Use a dry body brush before you shower, sweeping gently over your entire body from your feet to your head, in circular motions towards your heart. This not only gets rid of any dead skin, it stimulates your lymphatic system and helps your body to detox.

7. Set an intention for the day. It might be 'peace and calm', 'clear focus' or simply to be present in the now. Whatever your intention is, take a moment to breathe deeply, close your eyes and focus on infusing your being with the energy you wish to foster.
